The Art and Soul of Haitian Cooking, published by The Haitian Institute in
Washington, DC, is the first place winner, receiving $3,000. Receiving second
place honors and a prize of $1,500 is A Gold Mine of Recipes, benefitting the
Peeples Valley Fire Department Auxiliary in Phoenix, Arizona. The third place
award of $750 goes to Aggie Spirit, published by San Angelo A & M Mothers? Club
in San Angelo, Texas. Honorable mention goes to the Reed?s Landing Women?s Club
in Midlothian, Virginia, for A Taste of Reed?s Landing and to the South Plains
Food Bank in Lubbock, Texas, for Harvest Time. More details on these books can

The first place winner, The Art and Soul of Haitian Cooking received
consistently high marks for the originality and appeal of the cover, as well as
the variety of recipes. Judges noted that this was a refreshingly different
cookbook with many interesting and appealing recipes. The dividers feature
renditions of paintings by Haitian artists. For people less familiar with
Haitian culture, this cookbook is educational, as well. Profit of $7,200 and
award money have been donated to the Haitian Institute to support cultural
programs.
