As a non-Haitian who is a Haitianist, and who lives near Boston, the
situation you describe was not true in the early and mid-90s, when everyone
believed in Aristide and the Haitian Consulate on Boylston St. was a center
for sympathetic souls, under Consul Generals Jean V. Geneus (now Ambassador
to Argentina) and Dr. Andrine Constant (now Ambassador to Cuba).  Since then
there has been division and grief, including among my good friends in their
30s, 40s, and 50s, who came here from Haiti at age 12 or 14.
