The Oct. 29 article regarding the Haitians who arrived by boat a year
earlier describes how the U.S. has "spent" $26,000 in detaining one Haitian.

The article further states that the Bush admininstration "quietly"
introduced the mandatory detention plan in 2001.

The author should have described the detention of the Haitian entering this
country illegally as having "cost" the United States $26,000.

The author should have described the Bush admininstration's mandatory
detention plan as "enforcing" the law of the land.

Not once did the article describe the entry of these people into the United
States as illegal. Our nation's borders must be respected.
