18028: Grant: Re: 1804 (fwd)
From: Jenifer Grant <grantjen@worldnet.att.net>
Re the posting 1804 of the article written by Tim Collie in the Sun
Sentinel, I would like to point out that his list of "the largerst
charitable organizations doing work in Haiti" omitted Hopital Albert
Schweitzer in Deschapelles. The cornerstone of Hopital Albert Schweitzer
was laid 50 years ago by its founders, Gwen Grant Mellon and Dr. William
Larimer Mellon. It continues to provide health services to 258,000 people
in its 610 square mile district. In addition to the 190 bed hospital, it
has extensive Community Health and Community Development Departments which
reach the people in the more remote areas of the district. HAS employs over
700 local Haitian people. Web site: www.hashaiti.org
