19109: Esser: Question to McCalla (fwd)
From: D. Esser torx@joimail.com
In a statement released on Feb. 22 by you as the Executive Director
of the NCHR you criticize at length the Haitian police, Aristide and
his government which you project is history and make only a brief
note of the convicted human rights abusers such as Jodel Chamblain
now terrorizing the country. A search of your organizations web-site
also turns up no articles condemning violence stemming from the
group, you so nicely refer to as "rebels". Can that be an oversight?
You seem to signal tacit approval of unlawful activities as long as
the come from a political faction closer to your own position, i.e.
in oposition to Aristide. It is one thing to question the fact
checking of others as you have done in several recent posts, but it
then should be imperative to do a little fact checking yourself and
condemn violence when it occurs as opposed to when it fits into the
agenda. Is it o.k. for fugitives from justice and convicted criminals
to take up arms against an elected government as long as they
"...have vowed to lay down their weapons only when Aristide
resigns..." ? If I am wrong here and you actually oppose violence
perpetrated by Haitian opposition groups, can you please point us to
where you are on the record on this issue?
