19144: Onlythetrue: Haiti First, Not Me, Me, Me (fwd)

From: Onlythetrue@aol.com

Almost 50 years of Duvaliers and assorted military juntas have not taken care
of Haiti's infrastructure and institutions: roads, schools, electricity,
market, irrigation systems, potable water, sewage systems and the courts. All
these people have put their personal interests first before the collective
interest. Poverty, insecurity, corruption, impunity were in existence well before the
arrival of this President. No one should expect him to solve these problems
overnight. Things cannot continue to stagnate as they have been for 200
years and this  President is doing everything to change that. In a country almost the
size of the state of Maryland, there are close to eighty political parties
made up of various and sundry egotistical individuals, disorganized experts in
taking advantage of satisfying their personal interests before the collective:
who often have two type of passports: who often keep their savings overseas,
therefore no money for the local government. Always ready to take care of their
own needs before those of the country.  This president was duly elected by
the majority of the Haitian voting population.  There were no chads hanging, no
decision by the Supreme Court.  A Democratically elected President. The
people's president, poor, middle class or bourgeoisie; there cannot be a coup
d'etat.

This President, who believes in Democratic society for all the people
including himself, has showed patience and reason. These so called opposition
egotists have sabotaged the 200 year anniversary of the First Black Independent
Nation in the world for their personal gain and refused to take responsibility for
the damage they've done. Today we see in the opposition Front for the
Advancement and Progress of Haiti (FRAPH) Duvalierists, those who want to enslave the
poor people of Haiti, a terrorist subversive group that is creating terror,
disturbing commerce, industries and schools. You have opposition people who are
using the radio airwaves to call for demonstrations, the closing of schools,
telling people to rise up against a duly elected government. What Aristide
needs is  an FBI  like organization and Haiti Homeland Security to investigate
these terrorist groups and associates. Maybe a Patriot Act to keep tabs on
enemies of the state. However, he has not done so, again showing restraint and good
judgment.

Justice for all Haitians to include the 5000 who died in 1991 to 1994; no
justice was ever served. We see today the FRAPH name of notorious Emanuel (Toto)
Constant   walking the streets of New York with impunity. Again, this
President has demonstrated patience. Over and over again, these egotistical
individuals, who put their personal interests before the collective interest, are trying
to derail this president for the second time. Again, this President, who
believes in human rights has demonstrated courage, reason and commitment to
democatic rule of law. The First Haitian President that truly champions the cause of
Haiti and its people, not himself.

Eighty different political parties in one country. It is impossible to make a
country run that way. It is not Aristide, it is the opposition you should
look to for accountability.  In his short time in power and with very little
money, this president is trying to built an infrastructure starting with roads.
Haiti does not have road service; he is building roads for commerce. For 50
years, Papa Doc and Baby Doc Duvalier built no roads.  A trip of 140 kms took
6hrs; that has to change. He is trying to change the image of this nation because
he cares, but these egotistical people keep standing in his way. They do not
want a better future for all haitians but for themselves. No jobs in Haiti;
Aristide did not cause that.  Today, six Haitians out of ten are without a job.
He is trying to change that but the terrorist groups keep putting stumbling
blocks in his way.  The problem is not Aristide, the problem is the opposition
who have no respect for democratic rule, who are ready to overthrow an elected
government in violation of the constitution; the buck stops here!

By the way, if Aristide is not President, these problems still exist.  It is
not Aristide, it is Haitians themselves who have to change their way of
thinking. Rather than "me me me" let's put the country first. We should all join the
president.  Together let's build not destroy. You do not like the president?
Vote him out in the next election.
