During the Duvalier regime, the the Military and the TONTON Macoute or
henchmen were used to oppress the people. 40% of Haiti's Gross National Revenue was
used to pay these groups to be sent against his opponents, often classifeid
as communists. Haiti, a county that had sugar now has to import sugar again.
The Duvaliers sold this strategic sugar factory and dismantled it, now all
Haitians have to purchase sugar in Miami, Louisiana etc Now this country has to
import sugar. The same is true of rice which is imported more cheaply than
growing it in Haiti, putting farmers out of work. There are plenty of examples of
that. Where does one begin. Aristide is not without fault, he was a priest
not a saint; today you have some who want him to be a martyr.
The opposition has been given the hand they have been looking for from the
International community. Let us see if there is consensus among themselves
beside the removal of a duly elect official.
The Racist immigration policy of the Baby Bush administration flagrantly
targets Haitian refugees who reach US soil. While white Cuban refugees are
released to the community, black Haitian ones are automatically jailed or provided
the Radisson at Guantanamo, even though they have committed no crime except
being born black. In an election year, Baby Bush faces some serious problems. He
certainly cannot afford boat people on the shores of Miami with his policies
in place to jail all Haitians. Plenty of Haitian-Americans in Miami, New York
and Boston . He is afraid what would the democrats say, particularly the black
caucus. The opposition has one chance to make peace; to accept Aristide as
the duly elected democratic president. On the one hand Baby Bush is not ready to
intervene in Haiti, there is no petrol, no gold.
On the other hand he must show he is the defender of democracy, although he
has reservation about Aristide rapproachment with Fidel who send doctors to
help Haiti. While there are more haitian doctors in New York, Boston and Quebec
than in Haiti. The opposition time is running out baby bush has an obligation
to back Haiti a duly elected President elected democraticly as Baby Bush the
defendor of democracy in Iraq must show consistency with policy of face boat
people who would have an impact on his reeleaction. The time is almost running
out for the opposition and the democrat and the black caucus is watching, so is
the international community.
