this article is troublesome for a number of reasons. for one thing, it claims
that aristide is "now, a pariah facing total rejection by his country." could
anything be farther from the truth? there are, in fact, thousands of haitians
who are willing to die for aristide tomorrow... quite the contrary to "total
rejection," i would say.
chamberlain was right... too many journalists reporting on the suddenly
newsworthy republic of port-au-prince in fact know nothing about haiti but generate
their reports as some kind of fodder... an industry geared toward
consumerists, i suppose...
