Exposing myths of Haiti's politics

In a recent letter on Haiti in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the author
states: "That enables the politically favored elite -- typically
light-skinned Haitians of mixed European and Arab heritage -- to maintain a
stranglehold on import-export monopolies that pump more money into Miami
than into the island."

This assertion remains one of the many myths fabricated by Mr. Aristide to
make his role more palatable to fair-minded American citizens.

First, the Haitian elite comprises all epidermic nuances.

Second, for many generations, the Haitian elite has found itself at odds
with most Haitian government economic policies. The elite and private sector
have always wished for greater fairness and cooperation from successive
Haitian governments.

Third, the Haitian elite's money flows to Miami in an effort to hedge
possible losses, such as those of the present times.

Many myths like these have been sowed by Aristide for self-service. It is
time for the press to sort out the truth from the lies and half-lies that do
so much harm to Haiti.
