Sure, the "rotting money in a safe" story is pretty suspect. For starters,
the "chain of custody" would have it thrown out of court.
Speaking of court: It remains to be seen if the drug trafficking
charges vs. Aristide can be proved.
Let's forget about that, and concentrate on the other elements of corruption
to which Nancy Laleau and Daniel Simidor referred: documented millions for
(white, foreign, many) lawyers, American lobbyists, foreign security forces
and arms shipments), mansions, SUVs, and murderous thugs.
Wasn't this money intended for the good of the Haitian people? Not the few
in power? Roads, hospitals, etc. It certainly was taken from the haitian
people, and foreign donors.
Ira Kurzban has been quoted as saying that his fees were earned from
going after the money stolen from the people by Baby Doc Duvalier. Did any
of that money go back to the Haitian people?
Could White respond to the other items in Post #21092 "Where Did
Aristide Get The Money?" Having agreed about the rotting money, I want to
know about the much larger sums.
Haiti can't go on with one leader after another enriching himself and his
cronies at the expense of the country then leaving with the booty and a
cover story. To read Patrick Slavin's eloquent post about how Port au Prince
looked in the 40s and 50s is enough to rethink Haiti's "progress.," and
examine the role leaders since that time have contributed to the decline.
It's not been solely the fault of other countries!!! kathleen Burke
