23625: (discuss) Saint-Vil: RE: 23605: LScottPht: Wycleff go to Haiti and save Ti-Paille's life (fwd)

[Note from Corbett -- I fixed this post to meet that new criteria; again,
as a model for what it will look like.]
I do hope that Wycleff goes to Haiti. But I hope that as he was thoughtful
enough back in 1997 to not let himself be held within the confines of
Rhodesia-like Petion-Ville - but to also mingle with and listen to the
inhabitants of Bélair... he would also take time to do so this time around .
I will always cherish the wonderful experience we lived with the Fugees in
Port-au-Prince in 1997. Not at the $100 per person party, but the large people
party held in downtown Port-au-Prince where Haitians where not afraid of each
other..because back then we did not fall for the propaganda that causes some of
use to deny our fellow Haitians his humanity, because of the holes showing in
his pants, or the African braids on his head, or his refusal to collaborate
with the foreign forces against his own people.
Wycleff should specifically inquire about the fate of fellow musician Ti-Paille
who has been rotting in jail since the racist Coup of February 29th.
None of the so-called artists in Haiti lifted a finger to protest the arrest of
this popular band leader from Bélair. Afterall, his was a "bannapye". He does
not belong to the "club". But if Wycleff hstill cherish his Kwadèboukè
roots...his people roots, he will go to see Ti-PAille in jail...and perhaps
that in itself may help our brothers and sisters in Bélair find some hope and
some peace from the constant reppression.
Perhaps Wyclef wants to live up to the legacy of one Robert Nesta Marley, who
even in his higest moments of fame never betrayed his brethren from
Trenchtown....Perhaps Wycleff will go to Haiti... but not to stay up hill
drinking Barbancourt at the Montana while letting all kinds of leeches riding
on his hard-earned fame.... while the people who truly made him who he is
continue to be the subject of bullets from the occupying forces and their
stooges.
Go home brother Wycleff but please do not get stuck in Babylon ! Your brothers
in Bélair need your solidarity.... Ti-Paille is the brother's name.....ask
about him. He may still be alive. You may save many lives.
