Hello b we are seeking a fourth panelist for a Graduate
Conference to be held at the University of Massachusetts
Amherst on 30 April 2005. The conference is entitled
bOUR RESEARCH MATTERS: NEW DIALOGUES ON LATIN AMERICA, THE
CARIBBEAN AND LATINO STUDIESb
Panel and submission information follows:
Transcending Space and Time: Approaching Latin America and
the Caribbean through Art & Performance
This panel seeks novel approaches to the self, identity and
community in Latin American and Caribbean studies. Taking
art and performance as points of entry to local/ global
culture, we propose a reanalysis of traditional
scholarship, grounded in expressive approaches to research
and representation. Linking memory and the senses, we
examine the melding of past and present in creative
processes and products. Our research situates the
construction of self and social world in imagined sites that
transcend the bounds of space and time, in an effort to
expand anthropological and historical inquiry.
Please submit 200-word abstract to Carolyn Merritt
