"If it bleeds, it leads" is a old but true adage of the press.  There are too
few stories about Haitian successes and too many about failures.  The press
does not thrive on joyful travelogues and good news but rather on news of
crime, dissention and misery.    For every item of "good news" published or
broadcast about Haiti, their are dozens of "bad."  When media continually
publishes stories of UNCHECKED government corruption or crime, potential
travellers take note.  People who do not have first-hand knowledge, form
opinions based on what they read or are told.
