The following was posted on a Caribbean list. I myself have seen works in
Haiti similar to those posted on the web referenced  for Turks and Caicos
artisans.  If others on this list have specific citation  and photos
concerning Haitian works of this sort, I would like to be informed as well.

Subject: Straw or Grass Baskets?

I'm seeking information about the current and historical distribution of
coiled straw or grass baskets in the greater Caribbean.  Specifically, I'm
looking for any that are similar in construction (though not necessarily
form) to the coiled baskets made today by native (Belongers) craftsmen on
the Turks and Caicos Islands.  A few examples of these may be found at

Any help, including leads to published/unpublished research, will be
appreciated.
