From: J.David Lyall <postmaster@lyalls.net>Many Teleco stations have been destroyed in Port by political bandits. No doubt these are part of Deroncerey's destabilization campaign. Teleco is not wasting time repairing fixed assets which are easily targeted for destruction. They are expanding their own cell phone service, ti telephone 2004. They have fixed wireless phones now. It actually makes more sense to expand the wireless service, it is a far less expensive investment. The teleco fixed wireless phones cost one gourde per minute.
The addition of a new cell phone company to the haitian market may be good news for "business" whatever that means, but it's hardly good news for Haiti. The basic wired telephone service, the one that really maintain business and personal communication going is in the most dismal state.
