Richard Morse in his response below described Haitian migration to Louisiana after the war of independence in the US. Does anyone out there have some references for books on Haitian migration beginning in the late 1700's.

Yes, I believe that a multi-cultural education is good and positive, but I
also believe that there should be a strong base from which it is learned and
that base in Haiti should be Haitian culture. The trend of vilifying Haitian
culture should be reversed. Perhaps there should also be regional geographical

history which has for so long been ignored such as the effects of Haitian
independence on United States expansion towards the West. The Louisiana
Purchase

for example ought to be tied to the French withdrawal after their losses in
Haiti. Another example might be the Haitian migration into Louisiana during
and after the war for independence and its effects on New Orleans culture,
American music and tradition. A third note of interest would be Haitian
support and influence of successful independence movements in South America.
