Haiti Action Halifax Presents
a special screening of:
"Aristide's Haiti"
Filmmaker Nadia Pequeneza closely chronicles the US-backed overthrow of Haitian
President Jean-Bertrand Aristide on February 29, 2004. The US and Canadian
governments continue to claim that Aristide resigned, but Aristide and the
people of Haiti tell a much more sinister story. This Gemini-nominated
documentary features explores the backdrop to Canada's current role of
"democracy promotion" in this Caribbean nation.
"Our Arms Do Not Kill: The UN's Pacification of Cite Soleil"
U. of T student and independent journalist Isabelle Macdonald entered the
Port-au-Prince neighborhood of Cite Soleil armed with little more than a
handicam. Her short film documents shocking violations of human rights abuses
committed by United Nations troops. Despite ongoing reports of such abuses, the
media in Canada continues to remain silent on such injustices.
