BBC Monitoring Service - United Kingdom; Jan 24, 2002

Three new judges appointed by President Jean-Bertrand Aristide have replaced Judge Claudy Gassant, who was in charge of investigating the murder of journalist Jean Leopold Dominique, director of Radio Haiti Inter. The three new judges are Josua Agnant [phonetic], Bernard Saint-Vil, Joassaint Sainclair [phonetic].

Judge Gassant, whose mandate expired on 4 January, left Port-au-Prince on 9 January for the United States where he intends to seek political asylum because he fears for his security, according to statements made to The Miami Herald in Florida and reported by radio stations here.
