8495: First Lady at United Nations: Slavin (fwd)

From: pslavin@unicefusa.org

Yesterday, Mildred Aristide, the First Lady, participated as a panelist at the
UN Special Session on HIV/AIDS. The panel's topic was "The Impact of HIV/AIDS:
Implications for Poverty Reduction" and other scheduled speakers included Mark
Malloch Brown, the top UNDP official, and Paramanga Rrnest Yonly, Prime
Minister of Burkina Faso. I left the event before it started but by several
accounts, Mrs. Aristide gave a stellar performance. Well-briefed, highly
articulate, engaging. Great for the country to have a technocrat in a position
of influence.
