Notes on Jean Kina

• P. 280 Geggus:   ex-slaves "...led by much feared and very able Jena Kina Sept. 1793."
• April 16, 1794 Rigaud attacked Tiburon. Jean Kina's troops "...conspicuously taking the greatest risks." He had long been a vital part of the southern plantocracy.
• Nov. 1794 His corps was placed on footing of 5 years service then freed.
• P. 242 Jean Kina purchased fighting men. (Mix of free and slave)
• p. 320. Jean Kina was an African from a cotton estate in the bay of Carcasseu near Tiburon. Lived 20 years in San Domingo.
• Had between 200-5-- men. Loyal to whites
• Like Kina thousands of blacks became armed and loyal defenders of the slave regime.
• After occupation of PaP Kina became less valuable.
• Oddly and ironically, Colonel Jean Kina led a revolt against the plantocracy in Dec. 1800 in Korngold: p. 236. Kina was to meet Toussaint's sons at Dover in an abduction plot. Toussaint Louverture.
