Travelling Exhibition: A Picture for Peace

On 6 November 2012, A Picture for Peace travelling exhibition was opened at the Bertha von Suttner Building in The Hague (home of the INMP and UNOY Peacebuilders secretariats).

To mark the 2012 International Day of Peace, the United Network of Young Peacebuilders (UNOY Peacebuilders) has given young people aged 15-30 all over the world the chance to show their contributions to peace by taking part in a photo contest: “Why do youth play an important part in peacebuilding?” On 21 September, UNOY Peacebuilders revealed the winning photograph.

Together with our member Museum for Peace and Nonviolence the INMP composed a travelling exhibition out of the winning photo and ten runners-up, that can travel across peace museums around the world. The exhibition promotes the role of youth as peacebuilders, raise awareness about youth initiatives around the world and encourage young people to participate in peace-building activities. The use of a photograph as a medium facilitates the possibility of evoking a concrete and positive image of youth in peacebuilding. With it, the UNOY Peacebuilders, INMP and Museum for Peace and Nonviolence aim to bring young peacebuilders and their Picture for Peace on a tour across museums for peace worldwide. In The Netherlands, the exhibition is printed on 12 light-weight foam boards with sizes between A1 and A3. We also offer a digital form of the exhibition in PDF.

A Picture for Peace already travelled from The Hague to Dayton (USA), Ieper (Belgium), Kyoto (Japan), Tehran (Iran) and Aalsmeer (Netherlands).

Online versions of the exhibition are presented here:
