About APA Division 48 Student and Early Career Working Group

Welcome to the web-home of Division 48's Student and Early Career Development Working Group! I am hopeful that this website will serve as a resource for information about this working group and, more broadly, happenings in the fields of peace studies. Please take a few moments to explore this site and generate feedback: corrections, additions, and new ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Until recently, our generation has been spared (relative to past generations) from the effects that war has on a country and her people. However, with the commencement of strikes on Iraq, continuation of military efforts in Afghanistan, and brewing turmoil elsewhere in the world, we are faced with the challenge of promoting peace in the face of conflict. As this may seem to be a daunting task, we might gain insight and direction from Division 48's stated purpose:

"The purpose of the division is to increase and apply psychological knowledge in the pursuit of peace. Peace here is defined broadly to include both the absence of war and the creation of positive social conditions which minimize destructive conflicts and promote human well-being."

With this in mind, I am excited to share with you news and developments from the Division, and I am hopeful that our collective efforts in the pursuit of knowledge will contribute to the realization of a more peaceful world.
