PORT-AU-PRINCE, Jan 15 (Reuters)

"Several high profile arrest warrants against
Aristide supporters, including one against
Rene Civil, a leader of Friday's pro-Aristide
faction, have yet to be executed though the subjects
operate with relative ease and in public view in the capital."

There is currently no outstanding arrest warrant for Rene Civil. He was
issued the equivalent of a "failure to appear" bench warrant for not
responding to a request for questioning by Judge Claudy Gassant. At that
time many within Lavalas perceived Gassant’s action, to issue warrants for
Rene Civil and Paul Raymond, as grandstanding and politically motivated.
Despite this, both Civil and Paul ultimately relented and gave testimony to
Judge Gassant on December 13, 2001. The warrants were then rescinded.
